Ninja Gaiden (NES/Lynx)

After reviewing Ninja Gaiden 3 for the Lynx, I found out there was a Ninja Gaiden 1 for that console too, so I'm reviewing that now. Interestingly, this version is very similar to the arcade version - a side-scrolling beat-em-up. Much different from the NES.

I also would like to re-review the NES Ninja Gaiden games. These a classics so I want to be sure the reviews are correct.

Have you tried the Master System version ? Plays like the NES titles but it's own unique game.

If you're going to re review all the games you might consider picking up the Japanese version for the turbografx. I heard it's a pretty solid port of the nes game but with better graphics.

I just watched a longplay of that. I actually prefer the NES graphics over that one. It looks too cartoony and the music is horrible.

If you ever one day decide to start reviewing NES imports, you should definitely try out the Famicom version of Ninja Gaiden III (Ninja Ryukenden III). The levels are the same as the U.S. version, but the difficulty has been lowered quite a bit thanks to enemies dealing less damage and fewer enemies overall. They even included a password feature.

I'm not sure how well the differences come across in this video, but I thought I would include it anyway (gameplay begins at 2:30)

I also gave us on the Lynx version because I couldn't figure out how to grab the bars. Turns out you need to use the "option 1" button to grab them. WTF? Once you figure that out the game isn't half bad.

The game seems challenging, but not impossible. Definitely far easier than Ghosts N Goblins, especially once you figure out the timing.

That's why it's good that I'm a CRT nut because there is no input lag. I guess rummaging through my neighbor's trash really paid off, though my wife was really mortified when I lugged the darn thing inside. She also shot down my idea of going door to door to explain that I'm a classic gamer.

You know sometimes in life you just can't win!

It's on the turbo mini. I haven't tried it yet but it's there.

Back in 1990, I would have been less aggravated doing long division than making this jump!

The NG speedrunning community calls those enemies “hammer brothers”, lol.
