Yooka Laylee (PS4)

This is a throwback to classic 3D platformers like Crash Bandicoot, Banjo Kazooie, and Jak and Daxter. Very charming with a lot of likeable characters and fun dialog. I especially love the premise of the villain creating a machine to suck up all the books (!) of the world. I've run into a few minor glitches, but overall fun for all ages.

This is very affordable (under $20) although part of me wishes I had held out for the Switch version.

I think this game is great and definitely a nice throwback as well :)

Critic, unfortunately the Nintendo Switch port is currently digital only for now, but in the near future it could get a physical version. But if you do like this game enough you should consider getting the Nintendo Switch port physical when it comes out in the future, as it is based on the new more polished up to date patch version of the game FYI. Here is what the Nintendo Switch version fixes and improves from vanilla PS4/Xbox One/PC without patches: https://www.playtonicgames.com/huge-console-patch-now/.

Glad to see that you like this game, because a lot of people on the web simply do not like Yooka Laylee.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8Jzloqqe2s and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeU1bSsLerM and http://www.thejimquisition.com/yooka-laylee-review/ and https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/yooka- ... 0-6416649/. Glad to see someone honest review the game properly and unbiased. Also people like to hate on it because of the infamous controversy involving the game: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2 ... oka-laylee and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG1oBrTYD6s.

Anyway, related with Rare from the golden age, an excellent DF Retro on Donkey Kong Country + Killer Instinct: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ7qtqqgTlo was made and it is awesome with great info behind the scenes as Donkey Kong Country was the SNES answer to Disney Aladdin for the Sega Genesis with unique graphics not commonly used at the time period for games. It also shows just how different Consoles, Arcades, Portables where when compared to each other as they had unique looks and feel for each other.

Most of the negative reviews seem to hat the game for being what it's designed to be: a 3D platformer in the style of late 90's 3D platformers. Same problem the recent Crash Bandicoot remakes had.

Honesty time: I never had a problem with late 90's 3D platformers. Alright, there was that one time I fell through the floor in Croc, and the camera takes some getting used to; I'll admit that. But it took, what, 5 minutes to get used to the camera in Crash? Maybe a bit longer for Croc since the camera moved with you. But for the most part it wasn't that bad.

I've wanted more games like these for years now. If this was on the Wii U I'd probably already have a copy.

I don't get the hate that Yooka Laylee gets as well?

Honestly, I hear that A Hat In Time is a much better classic throwback than this. Much more worth your money. Of course, I haven't played either, so my opinion's not really valid. But from what I've seen, A Hat In Time indeed seems like the much superior game.

So I expanded the tropic world, and heading up the mountain guarded by Shovel Knight. It has the see-saw platforms and square switches. So I reach the top and I can't figure out what to do next! Any advice?

I believe that’s right. I don’t believe what power you need for the Shovel Knight area but I remember that you won’t have it if you go there before going to the later worlds.

There are quite a few pagies that you need to go back for. The way I played the game after the first couple worlds is I would just get enough to unlock the next world then I would go and buy the powers, so I could then go back through the levels with all the powers earlier on, and not have to replay as many parts due to not being fully equipped.

Well, that makes two issues that are pulling down the grade:
1. You spend time in places you are not equipped to handle, leading to wasted time.
2. The camera makes me woosy after extended play.

Still enjoying the game, just maybe not in love with it.
