Budget is far too low given not just the ratings, but that these shows drive ratings on dirt cheap Talking Dead shows, hangers on loke Comic Book Mean, and make the channels brand. Darabont left the show he helped create when AMC slashed the budget, asking for twice the episode count at a 20% reduced budget. It shows and at this point there are definite risks for doing it on the chea, as FTWD simply could not tell the story Iwas led to believe would be told. Now season 2 is set to go all Gilligans Zombie Island to keep the budget reduced.

I've never understood AMC's reasoning. It''s not just FTWD that's been hurt. The first season of walking dead was amazing, and then all the subsequent seasons have been painfully cheap. The show gets rating records like every season but why invest any money in it :?

Over all FTWD was a little disappointing for me, but frankly not anymore than season 3 forward of the Walking Dead. Fairly unlikable characters doing bone-headed things. Showing the military was always going to be a mistake because no matter how well you do it there isn't any reasonable way to explain zombies taking over the whole country unless an airborne illness wipes out nearly everyone overnight. Gun nuts, the police and the armed forces would wipe out a zombie army in a matter of months tops. Aren't there about 200 million private firearms in the US? Plus several BILLION rounds. Guns shouldn't be in short supply realistically.

I said the same thing to my wife while watching last nights premier. I dont see how slow, lethargic things slowly moving around would take over. They are really easy to kill, and even in large numbers arent much of a threat to anyone with a car. Their would be armies of people wiping them out, kind of like the original KNOTD.

Now that the walking dead's season 1st episode has happened & this show is done for the season I'm feeling more optimistic about it. I think our expectations was that this was going to be more of the same goodness as the walking dead. Once we found that this was substandard we were all disappointed. Going into next season knowing that this can't even compare we'll have more realistic expectations. Sure this show isn't very good, but even a weak man's zombie show is better than 90% of what else is on.

I'm holding hope that they kill off the whole weak cast & come out with some new characters. Wouldn't that be sweet?
