Book: The Devil in the White City

Postby VideoGameCritic » December 15th, 2015, 8:42 pm

One new hobby I've picked up in recent years is reading books (real books, not e-books). It gives me a chance to take a break from the computer and television screens. It's also relaxing. I'm a pretty slow reader, but I've noticed the more I read the faster I get.

My current book is The Devil in the White City, and it's fascinating. It's about a true story about a serial killer and the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. The fair itself was a revelation to me, showcasing technology and products we tend to take for granted today. In order to top the Paris fair which featured the Eiffel Tower, the 1893 fair presented the first Ferris Wheel, and it was 250 feet tall!

One side effect of reading is that it expands you vocabulary. Sometimes I find myself pulling elegant words and phrases out of thin air to use in my reviews. Guess you pick them up via osmosis when you read.
