I see they are showing the 2007 remake of Halloween tonight, how does it compare to the original?

Personally, I didnt feel it was that good. Rob Zombie is kind of "in your face" with his work, and turned it in to a super violent hack and slash fest, where the original was slowly paced and had a real suspense to it. I made the mistake of watching the directors cut, and sat through a long drawn out rape scene. I didnt even bother with the sequel.

I agree Rookie. The original Halloween was fantastic on a rock bottom budget. John Carpenter made every cent count. And I also luv the somewhat plodding pace building. I did not watch the remake, and now that it has an elongated rape scene I never will. Those are the most uncomfortable scenes. And in a horror movie there is no place for it. Halloween 1978 is just great the way it is. I just finished watching Halloween 4. And although it's garbage it is still fun to watch this time of year while looking out the window and seeing beautifully colored leaves fall. So seasonal!

I luv it! I have Fear Fest on my smaller tv and firing up Costume Quest on the 360. It's dark now so I can't see the leaves anymore. But there is a harvest moon out tonight.

I watched the majority of the Halloween remake last night. I had to close my eyes during some killing scenes; dang that movie is gruesome. So much unnecessary violence and gore. From what I recall from the 1978 movie, it was frightening enough without much blood and gore.

It seems a lot of modern horror movies go for that over-the-top, cheap jump scare type frights. I saw a preview for a movie based on the board game Ouija, and it looks the same as every other horror movie out these days. I'm not a horror movie fan, but movies like the Conjuring, the Gallows, Paranormal Activity, etc. look pretty similar to me. I only know those because my sister is so into scary movies.

It's a good thing fearfest is here, so we can watch the classics... (or try to watch them without getting too scared.)
