Favorite Album Openers

Postby LoganRuckman » April 26th, 2017, 6:29 pm

Yes, another analogue thread. :D So, in response to the favorite album closers thread, I decided to talk about our favorite first tracks.

Just like Butterfly was a pick for great closer, I think Tired Of Sex by Weezer (from Pinkerton) is fantastic because it set the tone for the rest of the album. It let you know that this wasn't the easily accessible Weezer that sang songs with high production values about girls and surfing on the Blue Album. No, this was an emotionally honest, heartbroken Weezer that just wanted to spill their guts and let the world know about their troubles. Aside from songwriting, the song also signifies the much rawer and noisier sound found on Pinkerton compared to the polished sound of their debut.

I love both albums, but it only took one song to let you know what you were getting into; Weezer's finest album, their magnum opus, their masterpiece.

I actually agree with Tired of Sex is a great opener. Since I'm comfortable in my skin and not a poseur I'm going with Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Pretty much every Kix album. Atomic Bombs, Red Lite Green Lite TNT, Midnite Dynamite, Hotwire, and Wheels in Motion are great openers that get you pumped for the whole experience. Buzzard by Armageddon was fantastic. As was New Thing by Enuff Z'nuff. You're in Love was a fantastic way to open Invasion of your Privacy by Ratt. Kiss of death was a great opener for Back for the Attack by Dokken. So many great choices.

I second this. I still remember when and where I was the first time I heard this album, as an album.

-Now It's On (Grandaddy, Sumday)
-Fight Test (Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots)
-Race For the Prize (Flaming Lips, The Soft Bulletin)
-Enter Sandman (Black Album, Metallica): This song, and album, are so overplayed AND overrated (Ride the Lightning-And Justice are FARRRR superior albums, but Enter Sandman was such an awesome opener!)

As much as I love that song (and all of Let it Bleed), I always thought that song never fit in with the album. After that song finishes, the rest of the album is very bluesy, acoustic/country.

I think Gimme Shelter would have been a much better fit, stylisticly with Sticky Fingers. Harder edged.

But yea, great tune though!
