New Music Thread

In response to several threads suggesting there's no good music in today's era, I've created this thread on current music that I think is good.

The thread is simple: Post new releases or albums/songs from the 2010s' that you think everyone should discover/listen to.

I'll go first. Fleet Foxes (a folk band for those unaware) released a new album called Crack Up, and it's unlike anything I've ever heard. It's brilliant.

This band called Hoops released an album called Routines. How should I describe it? Imagine a new wave sound with the production of shoegazing. It sounds really good to me.

And of course, you can't reference 2010s music without some Kendrick Lamar or Death Grips releases. Those are awesome. Start with The Money Store or ExMilitary for Death Grips and Good Kid Maad City for Kendrick.

Good timing. I need some new music in my life. Burnt out on classic rock, and well, really rock and blues in general.

Here's my contribution:

Sufjan Stevens, Age of Adz--typically a folk/acoustic guy, he went full nutzo on this album with the production. It's chaotic, but I love it.

Toe, Long Tomorrow--Japanese math rock band, mostly instrumental. I listen to this a lot at work.

Update: checked out those bands. Fleet Foxes isn't for me but Hoops was interesting. I'm going to listen to a few more tracks (I liked "on top"). It's interesting how those sounds are making a comeback. I picked up an album by Future Islands last year, and they have an 80s synth pop thing going on.

I've mentioned the reunited Swans before in another thread, but there's no reason to not bring them up again. I'm trying to avoid older acts in these recommendations, but this is pretty much a brilliant new band that happens to have the same name and leader as a brilliant old band.
Recommended album: The Seer

SubRosa is a fascinating "metal" band somewhere between Neurosis and Sigur Rós.
Recommended album: More Constant Than the Gods

Janelle Monáe is an R&B singer who makes all of her music tie into a strange sci-fi story. Kinda like Coheed and Cambria, if they were a black woman instead of a tremendously awful band.
Recommended album: The ArchAndroid

Imogen Heap is a brilliant English pop singer, kind of a modern-day Kate Bush. Very technologically savvy, although she's unfortunately naive about "blockchain technology".
Recommended album: Ellipse is her best, but it came out in 2009 and is technically ineligible for the thread, so I'll go with her second-best, Sparks.

Vespero, Chon, and Adebisi Shank, in ascending order of "mathy-ness", are instrumental rock bands that play (or played, in Adebisi Shank's case) very interesting and complicated music. Vespero is Russian and has more of a psychedelic/prog sound, Chon is American and surprisingly happy, and Adebisi Shank was British and sounded like hyperactive robots.
Recommended albums, respectively: Fitful Slumber Until 5 AM, Grow (Chon's only album so far), and This Is the Second Album by Adebisi Shank

Flying Lotus and Oneohtrix Point Never are excellent electronic artists who make strange, disjointed music. Flying Lotus has a bit of a hip hop style; Oneohtrix Point Never has a weird sound that would have been very high-tech in the late '80s and early '90s (there's a fair amount of late-period Vangelis in his music). People call Oneohtrix Point Never vaporwave, but that can't be true because I can stand Oneohtrix Point Never.
Recommended albums, respectively: You're Dead!, R plus Seven

Kamasi Washington is a jazz saxophonist who released a triple-CD album a couple years ago that I still haven't had a chance to really sit down with. The bits that I've heard are excellent, though. If you have a few spare hours to devote to some good music, try devoting them to The Epic.

I'll come at this from a mostly classic rock state of mind There have been a lot of great albums released by classic rock bands in this decade here are some worth checking out.

Warrant has release back to back stellar rock albums with singer Robert Mason 2011's Rockaholic and Louder Harder Faster which came out last month. IMO these are the two overall best albums in Warrant's history.

The Band Europe also put out some awesome hard rock albums 2012's Bag of Bones which is a very blues influenced album and 2015's War of Kings both are definately worth getting my personal fav of the two is Bag of Bones.

as you can tell by my username I am a HUGE Def Leppard fan lol and their 2015 album which is self titled I proudly put in my all time top 5 Leppard Albums.

I also highly recomment Night Ranger's 2012 album The High Road.

Journey released their 2nd full length studio album with singer Arnel Pineda in 2011 the album is called Eclipse it's a bit of a departure for the band with the major musical focus being on Neal Schon's guitar and not a lot of Jonathan Cain in it but IMO it's still a decent album.

Early 90's Hard Rock band Harline released what I think is the absolute best album of their career in 2011 called Danger Zone I've been hooked on this album ever since the first time I heard it.

Another early 90's band Tyketto released a great album called Reach in 2016.

One of my favorite rock singers in history Jeff Scott Soto released several albums in this decade all of them are worth listening two. There is his Supergroup called W.E.T. they did a album in 2012 called Rise Up one of my top 10 all time Melodic Rock albums. He also did a great solo album called Damage Control. He also has a newer band simply alled Soto they have 2 albums out called Inside the Vertigo and Divak both are pretty good.

Another great band that has good stuff this decade is the supergroupp trio The Winery Dogs both of their albums are worth checking out.

ZZ Top did the album La Fatura in 2012 and I also highly recommend it.

My favoite album of the decade so far though is the debut album of another Supergroup Trio called Revolution Saints it's Dough Aldrich of Lion,Dio,Burning Rain and Whitesnake on Lead Guitar, Jack Blades of Night Ranger on Bass and backing vocals and Former Bad English,Hardling,Ozzy Osbourne and most famously former Journey Drummer Deen Castranovo on Drums and Lead Vocals. The album is Self Titles and anyone who calls themself a rock fan needs to check it out :)

That's interesting about Warrant, I might check have to check that out. Although I don't know who can replace their original singer, Jani Lane. I actually thought they put out a couple really good albums in the early 90's.

Well I checked out the 2 newest Warrant albums and they're pretty good. Not Jani Lane good, but they do sort of maintain the Warrant sound.

I never would’ve believed that these last 2 warrant records were their best after all I’m a huge Jani Lane fan and love all their records with him although belly to belly is not as great as the others. But this new warrant these last 2 records is dynamite. Mason is a monster. Those were some great rexcomsbations

Plenty of it! I recommend following the reviews at Angry Metal Guy if you want to keep up with new releases. Excellent critics, a strong sense of community, and none of the BS clogging up bigger sites like Blabbermouth and MetalSucks.
