Top 5Favorite Christmas Specials/Movies?

Let's waste no time.

5. A Christmas Story: Yeah it's extremely overcommercialized, but it's still a holiday classic, mixing dark comedy with the charm of any other Christmas masterpiece.

4. Home Alone: Let's face, what everyone remembers most about this movie is the trap scene. The closest thing to a live action Looney Tunes cartoon (exception to The Mask). But the rest of the film is really strong, with the character development being surprisingly good.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Duh.

2. Elf: Some of the characters are boring, but Will Ferrell's performance is flawless, and the interaction with the scenery makes the film. I also love the chemistry between Buddy and his younger brother, and nearly every line of dialogue is hilarious.

1. The Polar Express: Yes some of the animation is unintentionally creepy, but this is a thrill ride from beginning to end. The characters, story, and atmosphere are freaking fantastic, and I never get tired of watching it.

In no order:

Home Alone- A true classic of slapstick comedy. The home defense sequence is one of the best examples of humor through pain. Also, the movie is very quotable ("I'm up here, ya big horses ass!").

Home Alone 2- Yeah, it's a retread, but still hilarious and they definitely upped the violence.

The Grinch- I'm actually talking about the reboot. Yeah I know. Please put the torches and pitchforks down. I just think Jim Carrie puts in a wonderful performance as a grouch with a sense of humor. Also, they did a good job making the Grinch a sympathetic character, revealing he became the monster he is because of ruthless bullying.

Elf- Will Ferrell is one of my favorite comedic actors, and this is one of his best roles. It manages to be funny and sweet, and I really like the family dynamic.

Christmas Vacation- Definitely more crude than my other choices, this is a hilarious montage of memorable moments that perfectly captures the spirit of inviting annoying family over for the holidays that you don't want to invite.

(In no particular order)
1. The Polar Express-- but only the first part. Once they get to the North Pole and leave the train, it loses almost all of its charm to me. Especially with those creepy elves.

2. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The one with Whoopi Goldberg as the evil ice witch. It's really not that good of a movie (perhaps even a bad one) but my grandma owned it when I was little and I would watch it whenever I went to visit, no matter what time of the year it was. The nostalgia is strong with this one.

3. A Christmas Carol, starring Patrick Stewart. Best version of the story I've seen.

4. Elf. If it was just me, I'd probably hate this movie. But my family has been watching this every Christmas eve for years so, again, nostalgia.

5... I actually don't think I have a fifth one, now that I think about it.
