Man, I hate to rain on the parade, but...almost every video game movie is either a dumpster fire (which can be fun, admittedly) or a stiffly-made exercise in genre cliches (usually those movies based on games that already have overt cinematic influences). How many video game movies have been good, at least insofar as replicating the game elements in such a way that they work for a more general audience? The first Mortal Kombat, the first Silent Hill (arguably) and...what else? You could probably name one or two more (Dead Or Alive at least was goofy and self-aware, the way Rampage has the potential to be), but I don't understand why people would devote any energy to the least creatively-fertile source of film that exists. I mean, if the movie comes out and the word-of-mouth is good, then that's different - but why have any faith or anticipation for something when the odds are you'll just get burned again?

This may explain why the new Tomb Raider movie was toned down for better or worse.: http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/201 ... -in-march/

A little late, but the jury for the new Tomb Raider movie is out and it is getting mix to somewhat negative reviews from critics: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/tomb_raider_2018/ and http://www.metacritic.com/movie/tomb-raider but got better received by the users.

Do you think the PG-13 hurt the movie (after all the 2013 reboot game and it sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider where both very hard M with blood and gore and F-bombs.) So toning it down to PG-13 was a mistake because the moment you tone down content to make PG-13 from stuff made for hard R in mind such as the 2016 Assassin's Creed, the 2017 Ghost in the Shell movie to make for the mainstream audience, your adaptation is doomed to fail! Two cents?

I have yet to see a review complaining about the rating. The consensus seems to be that the script's clichés and plot holes are the worst problem, that entirely different things should have happened, rather than the same things happening with more blood and swearing.

I can’t think of a single PG13 movie where I wished it had been rated R, but there are dozens of R movies that I wished were PG13 (with the totally unnecessary cursing thrown out).

I have a daughter who’s 13 and we look forward to Tomb Raider. I’m not all that familiar with the franchise, but we LOVE the Indiana Jones movies.

Their are wiki/people on Facebook complaining about poor grasp of the source material with PG-13 tone down FYI: https://www.facebook.com/AllieRX/posts/1479564545401339 and http://awful-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Ghos ... hell_(2017) SO people have complained when adaptations where toned down from the original source.

Those people are talking about a completely different movie, and the reviews of that one did complain about the rating. The difference is that Ghost in the Shell was originally a dramatic, philosophical work that was violent as a consequence of its bleak realism, and the 2017 movie's PG-13 rating is one of many symptoms of dumbing down and commercializing the whole thing (the most insulting, of course, being the casting). But Tomb Raider, even at its most serious, has always been about Indiana Jones-style action and adventure, and nobody has ever had a problem with PG-13 for that kind of spectacle. I actually think that a movie as violent as the new games would be criticized on those grounds - the games are exceptionally violent because games have become violent in general, but in a movie, that level of violence would seem tasteless. Then again, I'm of the mind that it's tasteless in the games anyway, so maybe what I'm saying has no relevance to you.

Anyways, you are with the critic that think the recent Tomb Raider games graphic violence and F-bombs tasteless, and you prefer the T rated Tomb Raider pre-2013 series then?

Me too. I hate the fact that cursing and gory violence is so common in video games and agree that it is tasteless. This is a video game, after all. Even back to the Mortal Kombat days on the SNES, the blood didn’t do anything for me—didn’t make it cooler, etc. street Fighter was still better :)
