Glorious spring

Postby zetax » February 23rd, 2018, 9:12 pm

The winter doldrums are behind us (at least hopefully!) in the Carolinas. First firepit of spring tonight (along with celebratory gin and tonics...) Any thoughts about the coming warmth...less gaming? More outdoorish activities? Gardening? Camping? Kayaking?

I likes my vidjagames...but warmer climes do inspire...

What do you guys look forward to?

Me and my girlfriend are planning to visit Yosemite next month. Dallas is still up and down in temperature...it'll be the low 30s one day and then the mid 60s the next.

Winter didn't really set in here this year. My sons were riding their bikes and playing in the swings as often as sliding in December, January, and Februrary this year. I don't think anyone who owns a Skidoo has been happy this year, because I don't think there was enough snow for it at any point. It's been cold and there has been some snow (of course there is some today as we have to drive over 3 hours to a hockey tournament), but it's been a perpetual Spring here since Christmas.

The thing I look forward to the most about spring is just the longer days. I like to take my boys for walks and hikes, and I find the early dark really limiting. By the 11th of March, it won't be dark until almost 7:30PM, and we can actually start to get some things done. For summer, we've already booked 2 camping trips (in tent) and are committed to buying a sea kayak (we did some last year and loved it and can enter the harbour here at a great spot just across the road). We'll be breaking out the fire pit in the next few weeks too. :)

Wow, you have this down to a science, don't you?

The good thing about winter is you don't feel obligated to go anywhere, and you're fine staying home playing video games for 9 hours. Of course, I'm fine doing that on a picture-perfect day, but I just feel less guilt in the winter.

Plus we have these loudmouth kids next door whose parents don't seem to want to do anything about all the screaming at the top of their lungs. Those little pukes are never outside in the winter, so I have that going for me when it's cold.
