Super Smash Bros. Melee (Gamecube)

You know what? Every time Nintendo releases a game, it's for kids. Especially this. SSBM is a 3D fighting game with tons of characters and tons of unlockables. They can take years and years to get. I have really no praise for this game since it is very awful and overrated. Some reviewers have gave this around an 8.6. I think it deserves a 4 or 5. The Gamecube has never really gotten a revolutionary game since Resident Evil 4, which is the only Gamecube game you need. Not Super Mario Sunshine. Not Metroid Prime. Not even Eternal Darkness.

The core fighting action is very lame, since some enemies can jump back up on the battlefield by using cheap jumps and special moves. When you see this game, do not play it. It's a piece of trash. The classic, adventure, and all-star games are extremely boring and crap. You might have to beat the classic mode 50 times to get a new character or find a special trophy you don't have!

The music is classic, but it's very dated. Yes, there is the Super Mario Bros theme songs but they are dated. At least Nintendo decided to put them in, so we wouldn't be stuck with some crappy song that is a remix of the Mario games. The rap song in the DK level is very annoying as hell, as I just wanted to curse at Nintendo.

The multiplayer is very boring and repetitive. As you play, you'll notice that you're doing 10 tournament matches which take so long! You might as well quit out and let your buddies continue without you. A lot of levels are in here, but they are not fun because of cheap death traps and annoying things that can pop out of you and send you flying back.

So, SSBM is very overrated. If SSBB (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) comes out, it needs improvement, because this is not multiplayer goodness, nor single-player goodness. Grade: D
(If you don't like my review, don't comment! I won't take flaming in this review!)

You should give up gaming if you use bias in your reviews.

And your writing is very bad. Your no comments remark tells me you are aware of this. If you don't want comments, don't write a review. Also, crap isn't an adjective.

I'm sorry about how "bad" my reviews are, but hey, I don't really like this game.

I have no problem with you not liking the game, but you really didn't give a good reason for it. You basically said you don't like Nintendo games because they are kiddy. The only fault you actually pointed out was that the game is "cheap" because characters can jump back onto the ledge. Maybe you didn't understand that was the way the game works. Would it be better if it weren't possible to get back to the ledge?

I don't agree with the Critic's review of this game, but at least he gave his reasons. Read some more of his reviews, and try to model yours after his a bit. Use your own voice, but note how he explains the good parts and bad parts of a game. At the very least, you need to drop the bias. A game reviewer can't be good if he/she doesn't allow themselves to like games simply because they are made by a certain company.

Well at least your friends know a good game when they see it. Do you just sit out and mope?

Yeah, in case you're wondering. I'm only 14. I have done reviews for my friends since 2003. And now, I've been looking for sites that have forums that we can post up game reviews. Well, this is the place I found. Sure, my other reviews were good, but I didn't like my way I reviewed them. I feel like I'm copying other reviewers.

That's not an excuse. I knew how to defend a point when I was fourteen. In case you're wondering I'm only seventeen.

Firstly, I must issue forth a formal apology for my initial post, though truthful as it may have been. Saying that this review “makes me seethe” is tactless. Suffice to say, however, I believe the tactlessness of your review outweighs the aforementioned charge on my part. With that being said, I'll try to systematically divulge.

When writing a review, the intention is to convey through words what sort of qualitative experience the game contains. The WRONG way to do this is by tacking adjectives onto the game, arranging this into paragraphs, and calling it a review. For example, I could say “Enter the Matrix sucks.”, call that sentence a review, and post it here, but if you have never played Enter the Matrix before you would have absolutely no clue as to why the game sucks. You might even be compelled to check some other source or even try the game out yourself because of my poor description. On the other hand, I could say “Enter the Matrix sucks because the game is overly reliant on focus mode, the enemies are not very intelligent or dynamic, and it gets boring using the same martial arts moves over and over again. That, and the Matrix movies bombed anyway.” See?

As far is your review is concerned, your comparisons are arbitrary. Your descriptions lack citation of specific examples that made you feel the way you feel. I noticed several times you went on brief irrelevant tangents or made impertinent interjections that seemed to allude to the fact that you don't even really like Nintendo to begin with. Judging from your review, I doubt you even played the game very far or gained any degree of proficiency with any of the characters.

You discouraged posting on the end of persons who don't like your review. Suffice to say, however, I feel strongly about this game, as it's one of my favorites. I like it because the fighting engine is very intense and competitive, the production value is top notch, and there's tons of stuff to unlock. That, and I'm a bit of a Nintendo fan. But I admit that inclination.

It's not really a big deal. It is JUST A GAME, and gaming is just a hobby, but I like this game a lot and I thought your review was very illogical and very biased. Hopefully I'm not acting out of hand by posting this. If so, do be so kind as to let me know. ^^;
