The Atari 8-Bit version is the best. The control is definitely better, although the game's internal issues still remain. I like Mountain King, but it does get frustrating at times. I still want to get to the "hidden area" in the 2600 version

Enjoyed the reviews, I was surprised there wasn't any form of Asteroids on the 5200. I don't own one so I have obviously never had the need to look into it. Still, balls of cabbage is better then nothing especially if you need to fix your asteroids itch.

Actually there was a version of Asteroids for the 5200.  It went unreleased due to the control issues with the joysticks and after toying with shipping a special controller with it.  It was pretty much a straight port of the 8-bit version.

And Asteroids for the 5200 was well beyond prototype phase.  It was finished and ready to ship.  It is even references in 5200 game brochures as a 'coming soon' title.

It's a shame the 5200 had such lousy controllers.
