I've updated my reviews for Sonic 1 and 2.  New reviews for Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles will be forthcoming.

What do you think?

I prefer the rolling spin attack of the first Sonic. The charge spin from part 2 was like a mechanic they threw in for dummies who couldn't understand the concept of inertia.

Like the updated reviews, and absolutely love the 16-bit Sonic games they have aged like a fine wine. Oh Sonic what happened ?

Excellent reviews. The first 4 Sonic platformers on the Sega Genesis are some of my favorite games of all time. Sadly, I've never beaten the final boss on Sonic 2... I might give that a try now. I always get burned out on the last few stages. I found it a lot easier to collect continues and lives by skipping the bonus stages. I have never gotten Super Sonic without cheating though...

I didn't notice any errors in the writing of the two reviews...

Rev-One tip for beating the final boss that my cousin helped me discover is to go all the way to the right side of the screen before the boss rises, then you'll be behind it and can get several free hits in.  It was years before I managed to get all the chaos emeralds, the first time I did it, I got the last emerald at the very last starpost in Wing Fortress Zone, so I didn't get to use Super Sonic for very long.

I also got the last emerald in the first game at the very last opportunity I had.

Also if you have a PSP, you could get the Sega collection as there you can save whenever you want in any of the games, which makes the special stages in the Sonic games a lot easier.

rift-I very much disagree with that, the rolling spin in the first game felt akward to use, the spin dash made things feel more balanced.

Sut-I think Sonic games today are still pretty good.

Was their a difference in the grades? Cause I don't notice. Honestly, I think at least one of the two deserves A+. Both of those games are a blast to play even to this day.

The grades are unchanged.  Both got A's the last time I reviewed them.
Yeah, you could argue these are deserving of A+ grades, but I thought after the minor flaws I pointed out a straight-up A was more appropriate.

I think for the next set of Sonic reviews I do change the grades, so stay tuned.

Oh and thanks for the positive feedback. I sometimes think people frown upon the re-reviews.
However, I think the new versions say more in less words.
Don't worry, I retain all the "good parts" of the originals.

Critic, I think you should review Sonic 3 and knuckles on it's own merit, as it is the complete game. In my opinion, the best platformer ever made, and worthy of that A+.

I hope you do see a much better game in Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles than you did before. I'd like to see at least one good Sonic game get an A+.
