Here's a new set of Game.com reviews with a vaguely summer theme.  Let me know what you think.

I have always been strangely compelled to get a Game.com, and stuff like that silly version of Duke 3D is why.  It somehow landed awesome licencing, but couldn't seem to do any of it justice.  It definitely has a one of a kind library.

Funny, but with the layout on my PC when I read the Frogger review Indy 500 for Game.com was on the lower left.  When I clicked back, Forza 5 took the exact same space and it looked like I traveled through time.  [smile]

Hmm I'm not sure games as ancient as Frogger and Centipede should receive 'A' scores.
Remember this is a 90's games system and surely more should have been expected than ports of admittedly classic games from the early 80's, the fact that Frogger has slowdown on this thing is unbelievable.

Just to clarify Centipede/Frogger on an Atari, ColecoVision, retro compilation or even a downloadable PSN game - yes give it an A.

But if I purchased a newly released game console and the best games are conversions of 20 year old games I would be peeved !

Finally, a game that looks decent on the game.com. I used to be really jealous of my friend who got one but after about a day he never played it again. Now I know why.

When I came to the site today I got excited when I saw the new black and white reviews.  Disappointment set in when I realized they were for the Gamecom and not the Game Boy.  Anyway, this is one of the systems I feel sorry for.  I have two of them, but I can't stand playing any of the games I have for more than a minute.  Game Boy spoiled us all.

This version of Duke Nukem 3d is a first person shooter where you can't even turn? That sounds awful.  Doesn't sound anything like its source game. probably can't expect much better from the game.com though.

However, I noticed this is actually the first version of Duke Nukem 3d you have reviewed. Its one of my favorite FPSs of all time, and was ported to many systems (including essentially a perfect port as a downloadable game on the 360).  Have you thought about reviewing any other versions of Duke Nukem 3d?

Yeah, I think this was a big oversight on my part.  What Duke Nukem game(s) would you recommend?

I know you are not big on downloadable games, but the version of Duke Nukem 3d for the 360 (which is downloadable only) is without question the best version. Its about as good as the PC version. Unfortunately, it includes no splitscreen (online only), but Duke Nukem 3d is a far better single player game than multiplayer game though. And the single player mode in the 360 version is ever bit as good as playing single player on the PC.

I believe the game was also ported to the N64, Saturn, and PS1.  I remember the saturn and ps1 having problems running the game, and probably haven't held up.  The N64 port was pretty good, as they actually updated the levels and graphics from the PC version.  The N64 was much better equipped to handle the game. However, it was heavily censored.  Also, it had somewhat awkward controls. I remember it having some great split screen coop and deathmatch though.

There's also a game called "duke nukem advance" for the game boy advance.  It is an actual FPS on the GBA based on the Duke Nukem 3d engine with smaller levels, and actually is better than you would think. There are now much better FPSs on the newer handhelds, but Duke Nukem Advance was probably the greatest FPS on a handheld when it came out. It probably hasn't held up that well though, but it might be worth a look just to see FPSs are actually possible on the GBA, unlike apparently the game.com.

There were some Duke Nukem Tomb raider ripoffs released for the PS1 that probably suck now. I think one was called "Land of the Babes" (Terrible name).  Duke Nukem 3d's official sequel, Duke Nukem Forever, which was 14 years in the making, is on 360 and ps3.  While not exactly a good game, its not quite as bad as the critics said it was.

you might try the Sega Saturn version because if you have a Quake save file on your internal memory and you load up Duke Nukem you get a free game on your saturn, Death Tank Zwei. 2 Saturn reviews for the price of 1.

I would personally recommend Duke Nukem Forever.
