Let's hear your thoughts on these two marginal shooters.

Blue Max 2001 scrolls to the LEFT? What were they thinking? Trying to be different I guess.

Blue Max was set in WWI, not WWII. Doesn't make the math work out any more realistically though.

I recently bought and played Blue Max on the Atari XEGS, thanks to the Critic's review of it. It was fun enough that I considered the sequel. Looks like I don't have to worry about that anymore. From the sounds of the review, it seems like rather than the usual sequel logic of "let's make a better version than the original" they just decided "let's make a different version of the original", and they took 5 steps backwards in the process.

I so want to so want to see the "Space Dragon" in Super Zaxxon. Maybe it eats Yars or other space insects. (totally off topic, but I just learned that Yars is a modern Russian thermonuclear missle - how about that for a Yars Revenge)

The humor in the review is terrific.

Spelling - its papier mache.

Even given WWI to 2001, nine generations is a lot for Blue Max 2001. Maybe they thought we'd be cloning or time travelling or something? And forget about flying saucer cars in 2001, where is my Pan Am Space Clipper to the Moon? I want to go to the moon, and watch Doctor Who on BBC 12.

I had to go back and check the review because I had sworn I put WWI for the conflict; it now says WWI, so I'm not sure if the Critic fixed it or if you misread it but either way, yes, the original takes place in WWI.

Scotland: If you want to see that Space Dragon you have to do it quick - I've never seen a 'boss' in any game dispatched so quickly and easily! It surrenders so quickly I have to believe it's French

Super Zaxxon is the sequel to Zaxxon, and it was a separate arcade game. It's not much different from Zaxxon, but it is a separate game

And Super Zaxxon is hard as heck - levels move faster than Zaxxon for some reason.
