Sweet. new Genesis reviews and one sounds very solid. I'm going to have to give Jewel Master a try, I have never heard about it before. Thanks for the great reviews!

Yes before I got a 32x or a pc I played the heck out of Zero Tolerance. I was jealous as hell at my friends who had pc's and were playing Doom. This was my first FPS game. And I logged so many hours into it as I was fascinated by it. Probably one of the most played Genesis games back in the day. When the 32X came out I seriously mainly bought it just to play Doom. The 32X was a lot cheaper than a pc back then. And I already had a Genesis and Sega CD. Once I had Doom my Zero Tolerance days were pretty much over. I reordered it off EBay a few years back and the nostalgia for the most part didn't carry over. I still stick it in occasionally when I feel like reliving when I was 24 or so. Back then I would have given it an A. In our present day and age I would prob give it a C- good review Critic!

I had not realized Zero Tolerance was missing. Just a D, eh? I enjoyed this game, but its been a long time since I played it.

Is this the first game where the gameplay mechanic of lives is mapped to a set of different people? I also liked the voice snippets.

Accolade was swallowed up by Activision, but they made some fun games. I played a lot of Hardball! oN the C64.

Jewel Master is great! Along with El Viento and a couple of others, it's one of the few action-platformers on the Genesis that have completely engaged me and made me actively want to keep playing until I beat it (as opposed to just wanting to get the game done).

And the music in Jewel Master is dynamite. FM synth prog-rock with funky harmonies, like something out of King Crimson or Gentle Giant.

The only real flaw is the last level -- they could've done much more. It should've been a Mega Man-esque affair where you have to combine your powers in all kinds of interesting ways. Instead, it's little more than a boss rush.

Originally my grade for Zero Tolerance was a D+, but while editing the review I changed it to a D for some reason. I might bump it back up.

Just a correction you state Zero Tolerence is the only FPS you know of on the Genesis. There was also Battle Frenzy (aka Bloodshot) which you have actually reviewed the Sega CD version.
Also there was the Brazil only release of Duke Nukem 3D which you can fire up on a Everdrive.

Besides Battle Frenzy/Bloodshot there's also a crappy FPS called Cyber-Cop (aka Corporation) for the Sega Genesis.

Zero tolerance is very similar to back track on the gba. It looks great but you have the normal thing of the processor not being able to keep up with the game in ZT.
