I would have to say this is certainly the definitive version, especially with the included documentaries, which are fascinating.

No problem. Been a fan of your website for years and remembered your fondness for this game so when I saw a re release was coming, I had to make sure you were aware. Thanks for running this site. I've used it through the years to help me decide what games to buy or pass on.

Great review. Your posts about this game on here and Patreon compelled me to get this game. I never played this game back in the day, but my gf and I have really gotten into it during the past year, since I finally tried my 32X version. It's one of the few games she'll play along with. I originally passed on the $30 release of this PS4 game, but regret it now after your review and hearing how much they added...so like a fool, I had to pay $55 for a copy at the resale rate. Here's a few thoughts I would add between the 32X and PS4 versions:

1. While the grainy 32X video adds character to the game, I definitely like finally seeing what's going on.

2. Thankfully, the game is now way easier, in several ways. There is the ability to see activity in each of the rooms at once, but equally good is that it's now much easier to time the traps. On the 32X, you have to hit the trap at the precise time that the meter turns red. If you hit too early, the button freezes for a few seconds, so you miss the trap. On the PS4, the button never freezes, so you can literally just tap the trap button the whole time. It also gives a wider timing window, since you can hit the button with a yellow or red meter.

3. Even with these changes, it's still incredibly hard to beat without a "navigator".. i.e., my term for a person who uses a GameFAQs guide to tell you what rooms to go to and the times for each trap. On the 32X, the game is nearly impossible even WITH a navigator. On the PS4, the game is still very tough without a navigator, but it's now easy to get 100% complete with one.

4. I feel like the game makes up for the easier difficulty by pulling the plug much sooner. After you miss like 10-15 augers, they'll pull the plug and end your game. I had much bigger misses on the 32X before getting the plug pulled.

5. The Theater feature is really great. Theater unlocks after beating the game. As long as you see a split second of a video clip, the whole video will go to the Theater, where you watch them uninterrupted. This finally allows you to watch the full Night Trap story, which is impossible while playing.

6. I think the vampires and augers are actually the most realistic part of the game. The least believable part? That 6 random girls meet at a mall and decide to go to one of the girl's houses for a slumber party....then listen and dance to one song for 5 minutes...and then all decide to go to bed. Great slumber party...
