Syndicate on the Jag U ar

You note that the controls are based on point and click and this is a PC game. Actually wrong on both counts. It was first produced for the Commodore Amiga. They did produce a console the CD32 but that sank without a trace a year after it was released. Also I am fairly sure it was joystick compatible on it. The Amiga was the first home machine I remember that featured a two button joystick. I had not played the NES at this point. So it could have been aimed at the joystick player. I loved the game and thought it was an A plus. Though you have to be into warped cyberpunk rts I think. Which I am.

Also you have not reviewed Shadownrun on the SNES. It is another cyber punk rts/rpg. It has the same feeling as Syndicate of the future gone wrong with corporations controlling everything. It was controlled with the joy pad and worked fine.

It spawned a sequel on pc Shadowrun Returns which I have. It is very good. Though I am pathetic at it.

It was originally released for both PC and Amiga and has mouse controls in both versions. The Jaguar port is specifically based on the higher-resolution PC version.

The review is accurate.

I disagree. It was an Amiga version first. You know how I know that? I played it on the Ammy long before it was a Jag game. That was when the Amiga was the system to have. Though it was the pirating that killed that system. I mean you could get any game you wanted down the barras in Glasgow for a fraction of the price of the actual game. Not that i did but my pal had hundreds of them.
I put hundreds of hours into Syndicate. As such I think it is an A plus. Though I like Atari and might be really biased. Not new Atari, they are a joke. Anyone wanting their new console.
Look at this. The turned alone in the dark into a FPS. Daft. http://store.steampowered.com/app/27506 ... umination/
Look at the bottom of the page for reviews and they are not kind to this game.

Plus what about Shadowrun? It is a great game but no retro review.

What do you think you're disagreeing with? Nobody ever said that the Jaguar version was the original.

You said that the review shouldn't call it a PC port because the Amiga version came first. My response, which apparently needs repeating, was that both the Amiga and DOS versions were released simultaneously, in 1993. I did make a mistake, in that the Jaguar version does not use the high-res DOS graphics (someone posted DOS gameplay on YouTube and mislabeled it as the Jaguar version), making it closer to the Amiga version, but that doesn't make your original post any less wrong for saying that the game was on the Amiga instead of DOS.

Regardless, it's reasonable for the review to call either personal computer release a "PC" version as differentiated from the console market (other reviews on this site also refer to games on non-IBM computers as "PC" games, like when the Castlevania Chronicles review calls the X68000 "a late-80's Japanese PC"). And given that Bullfrog was transitioning away from the Amiga to DOS development at that time (they would release Magic Carpet in 1994), it's very probable that the Amiga version was a scaled-down derivative of the DOS release from the beginning.

Though and I guess this is what I was saying. I did not find the interface clunky at all. I thought for an isometric rts that it was spot on. It is an rts/rpg and we know that the critic is not a big fan of them though I am so my point is still valid. It was wonderful to get such a complex Amiga game on the Jaguar. It was a feat that was not matched by any other console of the time.

Okay Ps1 had Syndicate wars but that was a joy stick game. Though it has a proviso of a ps1 for better control of some of the more fiddily parts. 8-)

As such my original points stand and this is an A plus game for the Jaguar and the review should be rewritten to show that. So the review is wrong. :D

Plus no one has commented on Shadowrun. Am I the only person who actually likes these RTS/RPG hybrids? There must be some Nintendo fans out there who were blown away by this marvellous title and want the critic to review it. Okay I might be the only person. :geek:

Okay I cheered up some what and am going to start playing the game again on PC.

It is years since I had a Jag so that is the only way I am going to get to enjoy this game. Now I am worried it will not have a joystick option. Oh well.

I enjoyed playing Syndicate on the Jaguar, but I wouldn't give it higher than a B. The first dozen or so missions are a lot of fun, but then I found it started to bog down. -And- definitely the controls were not ideal...

Funny, I tried it on the Jaguar and I swear I thought my cartridge was broke. There was no music coming out and just sound effects. I certainly didn't give it enough time but first impressions, not the greatest. :)
