Good reviews. I wonder if Pole Position's automatic acceleration inspired Stun Runner.

Space Harrier built on Sega's earlier game Zoom 909 (Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom over here), which was released only a few months after Pole Position. Zoom 909 and Pole Position would both have been in development at the same time, so there isn't much chance of a connection.

S.T.U.N. Runner was awesome! It's a completely different game than Space Harrier. Thanks to wikipedia now I know what the STUN stands for Spread Tunnel Underground Network Runner.

I wasted many a quarter on that machine in the arcade back in the day. Good times.

Maybe I shouldn't post right after waking up! No idea how I managed to read one as the other.

A good review I always loved PP on the XE. Your review captures what was good about it.

I really miss the days when games like Pole Position could be advertised like this:

If the actual game played like that, I wouldn't need another racing game, ever.
