Thought you would never find somebody who liked Heavy Metal: Geomatrix? Look no further. I loved it. Sure, the graphics weren't all that hot (witness the fact that all characters lie flat on the ground when vanquished, even if doing so requires their backpacks to melt into the floor) and the character design was suspect, but it was fun. I also wrote it off, but was hooked as soon as I had the chance to test it out on a demo pod. I bought it the same day (IIRC). Incidentally, I tried to play it online, only to find that most people think like the critic--nobody was around! Oh well, to each his own. You still have the best review site, Critic. Just remember to stay true to your original vision of keeping the reviews short. BTW, the band's name is spelled "Megadeth".

Merry Christmas to all.

In your Heavy Metal Geomatrix review, you spelled "Megadeth" wrong. The band chose "Megadeth" omitting the A as a parody against the horrid death metal bands that were rising up at the time.

I completely disagree with your Armada review, although I can understand why you detest it so much. It does get tedious after awhile, and if you're averse to any game that requires patience (RPGs) then yea, Armada does suck pretty badly. I really enjoy this game, though; the idea of space exploration without all of the intimidating numbers and graphs and the such appeals to me.

I remember everyone raving over Armada back in the day.   Everyone was talking about how it is a huge awesome open ended space shooter, but I rented it and found it boring as hell.   While an F is probably a little harsh on it, It's definately a mediocre game, and I would probably rate it in the D range.

Hey its pinball guy, anyway

since you gave a F,D- and C I hope you still plan on having dreamcast reviews in the future. there are still great games yet to be reviewed for this great little system. you just run into a string of not-so-good ones.

I actually finished Armada but I can't say it was worth the time. I don't know if you did this but you have to talk to the other pilots at your home base to get missions or a sense of what to do next. I do agree with most of your review, at the end of the day the game is fairly generic and boring. I can't believe that so many people loved this game and gave it high marks. I would say it is a D+/C- candidate but that doesn't necessarily make it worth a look either.

Very interesting reviews, especially on The Grinch.  I don't think many places reviewed it, so it was nice to hear about it. Oh and by the way, the name of Armada's publisher is actually Metro3D.

A long time ago there was going to be an Armada II that would be online for the Xbox.

Microsoft still has the link for it posted

I remember renting Armada at the time and being pissed at Sega that there weren't any more good games after launch for 6-9 months.  I still don't know how everyone raves about that game.  If it had had a tighter storyline to it similar to Star Control 2 it might have been decent.

Armada is not a space shooter it is an open ended rpg.  So it's no surprise you didn't like it.

The RPG elements are pretty light to say the least. It takes FOREVER to upgrade parts b/c they are so expensive. Even when you do it doesn't make much of a difference. Plus, it takes forever to go up in level. I know all about it, I played the game from beginning to end.
