Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast system reviews

I loved the N64.  While the decision to stay with carts didn't bother me, it really caused the "downfall" that Nintendo is finally recovering from with the Wii.  Too many developers found that it took less risk to make CDs for the Playstation (and Dreamcast for a little while).  Of course, Nintendo's main reason to stay with the carts (at least, this is what they said at the time) was due to the load times of CDs.  This was an issue, and many PS1 games were slowed down at the time.  Heck, even some of the newer systems have annoying load times.  With the N64 carts, there was never any load time, and you could get straight into gaming action!  This is a classic system, and I have to mention how great the 4 controller ports innovation was.  We played the original WCW game (on the N64) for hours & hours!

This is something they've really held to, though. The micro-discs on the Gamecube completely slashed load times for that system, and Nintendo stated repeatedly that they wanted to really shorten them for the Wii. They really succeeded on that, too. Wii games hardly take any time to load.

i owned a 64 back in the day, and overall i was quite disappointed with the system.  i was in tokyo when the system first came out in japan, before the u.s. launch, and i remember being absolutely mesmerized with super mario 64, just like i was when i first saw 'donkey kong country' for the SNES.

and although games like mario, zelda, and goldeneye were an absolute blast to play (with banjo kazooie being my favorite), it just seemed like good games for the 64 were few and far between.  the 64 really lacked third party support compared with their previous systems (due to the cost of making cartridges).  the 64 had a ton of potential, and as they old saying goes, 'a ton of potential and a couple bucks will get you a cup of coffee."
