Summer Gaming Ideas?

Postby VideoGameCritic » July 2nd, 2014, 9:50 pm

Well summer is upon us so it's a good time to dive into some summer themed games.

I've been playing Greendog (Genesis).  Love the tropical flavor but the gameplay is a little more aggravating than I remember.  Fish latching onto you?  Gah!  Also tried a new game called Pugsy which is absolutely deplorable.  More like a tedious puzzle game than a platformer.

So what summer games are you playing?  You might want to check out my summer review special if you need some ideas!

Mario Kart 8 has some nice tropical stages.  It wouldn't matter if it didn't, as that's what I'm playing anyway. [smile]

I've never been someone who paid much attention to the seasons in games, but I do remember getting a strong Summer vibe from the beginning beach section of stage 6 in Streets of Rage 2. The catchy club music does a lot to enhance the warm and sunny atmosphere.

Uncharted with it's warm tropical scenery and of course cricket games as it is traditionally a summer sport.

I'm wrapping up Black Flag, nothing like sailing through the Caribbean ^^. Off topic, any Black Sails enthusiasts out there?

I never really look at the seasons when I'm gaming but Mario Kart 8 is definitely a great summer game. Many of the stages have a tropical theme, the colors are bright and colorful, and has a nice cheery soundtrack (mostly).

I have been playing Rayman. Very light summery feel. Greendog is great too.

Here are some good summer choices:

Any of the Adventure Island games (NES, SNES, TG16)

T&C Surf Designs and the platformer-esque sequel, T&C II: Thrilla's Safari (NES)

Bonk's Adventure (These games always reminded me of Summer)

Joe and Mac (GEN/SNES)

Little League Baseball (NES)

The Blue Marlin (NES)

Cobra Triangle (NES)

Donkey Kong Country (Any of them)

Outrun (Saturn)

Sunset Riders (SNES / GEN - SNES is the better version)

King Salmon (GEN)

MERC (GEN)

Ken Griffey Jr Baseball (SNES)

Pilotwings 64 (N64)

Return Fire (3DO, PS1)

Dynamite Cop (Dreamcast)

Sega Marine Fishing (Dreamcast)

Splashdown (PS2)
