I don't see why Sony is bothering to release PS4 controllers and games to stores when the system isn't even out yet, I mean what's the point?  What possible advantage does that give them?  Most people aren't going to buy stuff that they can't even use until the system itself is released.  That makes about as much sense as Sega launching the Saturn early without telling retailers.

To get early reviews out I imagine; some sites are claiming to have reviewed the PS4 version of Battlefield 4 for instance.

It seems Microsoft has placed an embargo on anything being released early or reviews of games.

It's not the first time a game company did something like this. Sega released games like Blue Stinger before they released the Dreamcast.

It's to generate excitement and that 'it's nearly here feeling', it might seem a waste of time for some people but it must work on others otherwise they wouldn't do it.

I think its a great marketing idea. It drives the anticipation and gives gamers a little piece to focus on. Its kinda like reading the instruction manual on the car ride home.

@ Astrosmasher

If you liked Killzone on the PS2 (like I also did), then I'd highly recommend getting Killzone HD on the PS3. You can get it either as a single download on PSN or on the Killzone Trilogy retail disc. Basically, Guerilla revisited the originall game's code (pre-release) and fixed most of the audio bugs, smoothed out the frame-rate, upscaled the games original full-sized textures, etc etc... so basically it's the game that Killzone was intended to be but wasn't due to the limitations of the PS2.

It looks really generic, in my opinion.
