Not to be confused with the CGI movie Advent Children:
It's old hat to most of you that a Chinese company tried to port FF7 to the nes. But some homegrown nerds have made a mod of the Chinese "port" of Final Fantasy 7 so it closely resembles the original English-release of the game; the dialog is 1-1 and the gameplay is quite close.
I've never been a fan of the PS1, but I eventually enjoyed this after my friends insistence. It's really a great game, but the muddy PS1 graphics and cheesy pre-rendered backgrounds just don't hold up. 8-bit games always have a nice quaintness that the PS1 lacked. I'd suggest this to anyone who neglected the original, yet likes the NES.

It's a lot less "wandery" like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 1 on the NES--it kind of pushes you forward and has difficulty and pacing comparable to the PS1 game. Someone called it "a triumph of the human spirit" and I agree.
Here's information on the mod, how to patch the original Chinese game:

This is an interesting experiment and I'd be interested to see how it plays. I would have to disagree with your assessment of PS1 graphics, however. The pre-rendered backgrounds of Final Fantasy 7 have far more character and incidental detail than anything on the SNES or NES.
Damn.... This is really cool. I love hacks that manage to capture the essence of the original game. Some of the music in the video sounded like nails on a chalkboard though. Still, I might check this out. Looks fun.
