Which Consoles Have You Played the Most?

I am around the Critic's age and have been gaming since I got my first Atari 2600 on Christmas Day back in 1980. Of the consoles you currently own, which have you invested the most time in over the years? I will put mine in terms of the ones I currently own and how much time I have invested.

The reason the NES and SNES are so far down the list is because from about 1986-1992 I lost interest in console gaming. The NES games didn''t look impressive to me at the time. So those lost six years I was gaming on my C64. It wasn't until I saw the cover box for a Genesis Madden game (I'm a football nut) when I was an assistant manager at Blockbuster. I got a Genesis. And I haven't looked back since.

I think you can put the 8 bit computers in the console mix.

The consoles I played the most were the current ones out when I had lots of time to game as a kid. I notice that is not necessarily true for you, with the PS2 and XB360 high on your list, both when you were not a young gamer anymore. Interesting.

If you ask which console I've played the most over the last few years, probably the Genesis. The least is probably the Saturn.

Scotland I didn't include the c64 because I no longer have it. What was your choice system growing up for you? As many hours as I burned on the 2600 as a youth, every other waking day In my early to mid 30's I was constantly gaming on my PS2.

Lifetime:

Think this list is about right, the Speccy was my first gaming love but I was young and played football (soccer to you guys) more than play games. The ST and MegaDrive was the systems I had as a teenager so that's when I had most time to play games. Saturn and PS2 had a lot of game time even though I was working by this time I was free and single so still had plenty of time to play games.

It's funny everyone has the Genesis in their top lists. That was a hell of a console with some truly great games!

I want to say for me it's been the Genesis because it's such a no-fuss console.
Pull the cartridge from the clam case, slam it in the console, turn it on.
And the games are so easy and fun to play.

On the other hand, the new consoles make it a real chore just to start up a game.
The pick-up-and-play dynamic is totally gone from this generation - especially if you're online.

I would guess total lifetime usage the top 3 would be Genesis, NES and N64. They were my first 3 consoles, and I still fire them up regularly today. Currently my top used consoles are probably Xbox One and Wii U.
