Makes sense. Admittedly, I haven't been following the latest generation closely, so I wasn't aware of this new trend. Though I recall many budget games being released on prior systems (especially the PS1), so I figured it was about the same. Still, I don't know if you'll review enough of those to make good use of the icon. And you'll have to consider if you delete the icon from those games in 5-10 years, when the budget icon won't hold much meaning for them anymore.

And ironically, thanks to their small print runs and the occasional gem, a lot of games that originally appeared as budget releases now go for an awful lot of money. Seems better suited for current gen games that were released at economical prices, although I wouldn't include any that had limited print runs.

How about a compilation icon? That would capture a fair number of older budget releases, without the research or potential for misleading a reader about the game's current price. And at a classic gaming site, such titles reign supreme for budget releases anyways.

Not everything needs to be an icon. Just indicate 'budget status' in the review.

One benefit is that the algorithm for similar names take like icons into account, so budget titles are more likely to be recommended for each other.

I'm not going to go buck wild with this but if you think there are games that obviously merit this icon let me know.
