Games the VGC Didn't Review (Yet), for Systems Nearing Completion

Postby goldenband » April 13th, 2017, 6:31 pm

The "Top 10 games the VGC didn't review (yet)" thread got me thinking that -- since the VGC is close to completing reviews of the US library for a bunch of systems, and I've posted lists in various places of the games that are left -- I ought to post them all in one place.

Game.com (3 games left)

Monopoly
Quiz Wiz: Cyber Trivia
Wheel of Fortune 2

not listed:
most systems with 50+ games left to review -- NES, SNES, Genesis, PlayStation, etc.

There are some predictable omissions here -- rare games, educational and board games, games that need special attachments like the Intellivision ECS or Vectrex 3D glasses, games that were released on other systems -- but also some surprising ones, like Cyborg Hunter on the SMS, War of Nerves on the Odyssey², or Title Match Pro Wrestling on the 7800.

Also, the SMS versions of Sonic and Castle of Illusion are well-regarded (EDIT: and both now reviewed!), with many people saying the SMS Castle of Illusion is better than the Genesis one (haven't played it myself).

And Y's [sic] is an RPG, but an action RPG of the kind I think the Critic wouldn't mind.

In the spirit of keeping a comprehensive checklist, you can also add Lady Bug for the Intellivision and Zenji for the Atari 5200.

Ooh, good call. I've edited the OP accordingly, though apparently that makes the post temporarily disappear (!) until the edit is approved.

Here's the Sega CD unreviewed list, which is longer but still represents over 50% completion for that console (at least for official US games). There are tons of worthy games here that deserve reviews -- so, something to look forward to!

EDIT: Moved list to first post to unclutter the thread.

Totally missed this post just now! Please, don't cease with your OCD ways -- they're perfect for a list like this. :D I'll edit the OP right now, which will reappear once it's approved by the mods (it's too bad every post on these forums has to have manual mod intervention).

The US Virtual Boy library is complete, but here are the remaining Japanese games:

Innsmouth no Yakata (JPN)
SD Gundam Dimension War (JPN)
Virtual Lab (JPN)

All of them appear playable without the Japanese language -- or if you prefer, there are translation patches for all three (as well as Virtual Fishing). And of course there are the prototypes Bound High and Faceball.

EDIT: Removed Space Invaders and Virtual Bowling, because they've just gotten reviews! Awesome!

EDIT #2: Updated to show that Innsmouth no Yakata now has a translation patch.

Dang! How much time did you spend compiling this list? I can't bother to even read the whole list yet alone imagine how much time you must've spent creating this.

Ha! Fortunately I didn't do it all at once, since at least half of it is a compilation of old posts -- I put together the Intellivision list a few years ago, for instance, and another poster did the Channel F library.

Otherwise it's actually not that time-consuming -- just grab the VGC's list of reviews, compare it to the published lists of complete system libraries, and eliminate any dupes.

That said, there's a reason I haven't attempted to do this for the PlayStation, Genesis, SNES, or NES! The one system I could probably add at this point, though, is the Game.com; there's a list somewhere in the forums of the few Game.com games the Critic hasn't reviewed yet.

Added Game.com games to the first post, and edited the previous post to reflect the VGC's recent review of Space Squash (yay!).
