Eternal Eyes is a dumbed down, more linear Final Fantasy Tactics clone for someone who doesn't want to invest hours into an RPG. It was a budget priced game for PS1. Good game for what it is.

Zelda isn't RPG, it's action adventure, except for Zelda II.

Rev wrote:Nothing against your recommendations but I'm curious why people bring up Zelda as an RPG... The only Zelda game that I think of that has RPG like elements is Zelda II for the NES. To me, the most I can say about A Link to the Past is that it is an action game that borrows some RPG elements like increasing hearts and equipping new weapons and armor. However, you could make that argument about basically any Action game these days.

I agree with you, but we're looking for 'RPGs for people who aren't fans of the genre'. I think action-adventure games like Zelda are a good starting point for them to 'get into' RPGs. Those games are similar structured, without all the hassle of statistics.

1. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for Gamecube
2. Diablo 2 for PC/Mac
3. Super Mario RPG for SNES
4. Illusion of Gaia for SNES
5. X-men: Reign of Apocalypse for Game Boy Advance (It's a kind of obscure beat em up with rpg elements, but a good little game!)

But weebs are already fans of JRPGs.

Lol. Not necessarily--you'd be surprised. Excuse me while I get back to evangelizing for Persona games. As a fellow Demon's Souls devotee I'm sure you can understand.

Continuing to assume the OP is coming from action games to RPG's (as opposed to say simulation or visual novel games); for a more obscure option, I'd suggest the Shadow Hearts series because of it's more action based combat.

If the person doesn't like RPGs because they take so many hours to play, there are spells or weird gameplay elements, grinding, random encounters when you want to get somewhete, learning ins and outs of tactics and really just finds them dull and would rather be doing an action game, then how about a Rogue-like? They have many RPG elements like levelling,,loot, inventory management, and the general atmosphere, but are often short games, with a clear death at the end.

Consoles are not the usual home for these, but Fatal Labyrinth on the Genesis comes to mind.
