It's entering an already crowded market for the same price as a PS4 (which, btw, has two Atari Flashback volumes readily available), no distinguishable hook, and it's competing with itself in all of the wrong ways (do I buy a Flashback for $40, or an Atari Box, which has less functionality than my PS4, Switch, AND phone for $300?).

Don't get me wrong, it's a neat little curiosity, but how could this possibly go anywhere?

This is going to be the MEGA console. O yeah of little faith!!!

This is going to be this gens Jaguar. Looks great, plays even better and I am the only person who bought one... lol :geek:

Ataribox Indigogo campaign delayed. Till when? I dunno; they didn't say...

At least Sam Tramiel made a product. :/

But the games have to be actual games that are not available elsewhere. For example, I don't need this to play 2600 games when I can do that on a Flashback which is 1/5 the price.

What would be cool would be a system that could play the entire Atari lineup (e.g. from the 2600 through the Jaguar) emulated. That would be worth the price of admission especially if it was pre-loaded with the best games for each platform.

AtariBox finally revealed their controller. Looks like an old Atari 2600 joystick streamlined for modern eyes.

Looks nice. But I have to ask. How is somebody supposed to play modern type games with only one button?

Maybe a resurgence of "point-and-click" adventures?
I think the Ataribox supposedly has USB ports for it's controller inputs so I'd imagine it could take advantage of controllers with more buttons.

I think we should be more worried that there have not been any hype for games on the Ataribox..no screenshots or video of it in action. I believe i read somewhere that Jeff Minter was working on a new Tempest game for it (Tempest 4000?) but I haven't seen anything else regarding that (or other) title/s.

Fun fact about the Ataribox, it my have had it early development signs back in 2016 with "AMD "design wins" suggest three upcoming console reveals": http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... le-reveals. One of them was for the PS4 Pro for Sony, the Xbox One X for Microsoft, and they said the Nintendo NX was going to be AMD powered, but that was not true at all in the end as the Nintendo NX became the Nintendo Switch powered by Nvidia. So what would the last one be, it may be the Ataribox after all as that is AMD powered according to Atari.

So the Ataribox was unofficially announced back in 2016 with this hint, but it did not get revealed until this year. Thoughts on this?

Now that would be pretty sweet. And if that was indeed the case, I'd buy one on the day of release.

Here we go again. Just when I thought it was dead, someone announces that a prototype will appear at the GDC.

That's a pretty slick looking design, though. And if the Atari Box does indeed get released at some point in time, I hope that that's the design they wind up using for it. Looks very much like the classic VCS with a modern twist to it. I like it.
