Cheap Game Find of the Week

Postby ZetaX1 » July 15th, 2007, 1:30 am

Resurrecting  a long dead thread...

FIND:        Gunpey
PLATFORM:    PSP

LOCATION:    Toys ‘R Us (U.S.A.)
PRICE:       $10
DESCRIPTION: Q? Entertainment’s version of Gunpei Yokoi (inventor of the Game Boy and Virtual Boy) puzzle game.  Similar to Lumines, with Q?’s penchant for trippy background skins and music, but based on creating lines across the puzzle-space, as apposed to dropping blocks into various patterns.  The fun/greater challenge is creating large, branching paths across the screen, garnering greater scores.

CONCLUSION:  7.5/10 - Very fun and challenging remake of a rarely seen (in the U.S.) Wonderswan puzzler.

Glad you resurrected this. I found ChuChu Rocket for GBA for $4 (I wasn't even aware it existed outside of the Dreamcast version). It's a pretty good game, too.

Bomberman Land Touch DS
Store: Walmart
Price: $15 clearance bin new

Pretty decent Bomberman package, but be warned: NOBODY plays this game online (only laggy matches with worldwide players available at this point), despite it being online enabled. Has single cart multiplayer though, so still a great pickup. Single player game is stylus based minigames. Is OK, probably better than the usual Bomberman mini games.

FIND:        Metal Slug 4 & 5
PLATFORM:    XBox
LOCATION:    Toys-R-Us (US)

PRICE:       $8.00
DESCRIPTION: Not quite the collection of 'Anthology', but more than enough 2-D shooting goodness to keep one busy for a while.  Some of the enemies (the vomit-throwing zombies, for example) are hilarious.
CONCLUSION:  7/10 - Smooth playing, action-packed, and humorous, with good graphics and fun, twitchy gameplay.  Snag it if you can find it.

NOTE: The local Toys-R-Us has a 'bargain bin' with a few titles well worth picking up.  Example: GT4 (PS2) - $8,  Gunpey (DS & PSP) - $8, Virtua Tennis (PSP) - $8, Jax 2 (PS2) - $8.

The thread that WILL NOT DIE (as long as I can still find it!)...

FIND:        Patypus
PLATFORM:    PSP

LOCATION:    Gamestop/EB (U.S.A.)
PRICE:       $10 (New)
DESCRIPTION: Horizontal scrolling shooter.  Not great, but simple, attractive fun.  Basic power-ups (some SUCK) and one button control.  Nice digitized claymation graphics.  Fun in short spurts (or longer, if you have the time).

CONCLUSION:  7.5/10 - It got sorta crappy reviews, but well worth 10 bucks if you like portable scrolling shooters.  Easier on the eyes than the Gradius Collection...

Here's one for PC gamers.

Tribes 3 for 99 cents plus 3 dollars shipping if you use the cheap shipping.   It got pretty good reviews, and unlike the first 2 tribes, it has an actual single player!

Nevermind that.   The deal is over today.   I hope someone bought them yesterday when there were on sale.
