Let's Talk About Controllers

Good ones, bad ones, and everything in between.  Controllers can make or break a system.

I personally consider the GameCube's WaveBird to be the most comfortable controller ever made.  It just perfectly mushes with your hands.

As we all know, the Atari 5200's controllers were atrocious due to the lack of a self-centering mechanism.  But the Magnavox Odyssey controllers were also very difficult to use.

The Wii controls hurt my arms.  I really hate having to constantly swing around like a lunatic.

Some older systems used these little "knobs" as directional pads - Channel F, ColecoVision, and so on.  The Channel F is especially unpleasant, since the knob is on top.  Some other systems had the "controllers" built-in for especially painful gaming.

I like how the XaviX has a different motion sensor controller for every game.  The GoGo TV Game System tried this out, but it was very unresponsive.

The Sega Pico's bizarre pen-and-book controls are really awkward and make for difficult playing.

But the award for weirdest controls would be a tie between the Compact Vision TV Boy and the InteractiveVision:

THE COLECOVISION CONTROLS DO NOT HAVE KNOBS.

You have a dirty mind!

Seriously, they look like doorknobs, I know, BUT THEY DO NOT TURN. YOU CANNOT USE THEM LIKE PADDLES. They are very stiff,
hard, slippery.... oops now I'm getting x rated!

I use 2600 joysticks on CV and any system I can! I like the SPECTRAVIDEO joystick the best.

NES pads are great, easy to use. SMS are not so great.

I agree with the 5200, and the buttons on it suck. But the Odyssey2 is a great stick with intented slots for movement!

The more complex controllers like N64 blow, man. They are like mondo badddd dude, they suck soysauce.

Sorry. I've been up all night snorting nasal spray. SNURRF!
(Actually I just had to ride 3 miles to the store TWICE back and forth because I forgot my wallet.)

The PS2 is as complex a control as I'll go to. I won't touch that monstrous Xbox piece of junk!

I was actually saying that the Odyssey 1 controllers are difficult to use.

And here's a fixed picture of the InteractiveVision, the first console to use differently-colored buttons:

That's one aspect I love about consoles [along with inserting in some sort of media]

My favorite is actually not the 64 controller  but instead the Xbox Controller S [The Duke was horrible but the smaller version was awesome, good size, comfortable, handy triggers]

My least favorite is the CD-i controller which looked like a demented Nunchuck but played worse than a Jaguar controller

Still have you seen the HyperScan controller? It is so frickin' weird looking,it looks like a sorry attempt to look like a  PSX controller

For comfort and functionality, you can't beat the Astrocade controllers.  They had a built-in grip, a trigger button, and a small joystick that doubled as a paddle!

They looked dumb, but looks can be deceiving.

I always thought the Jaguar controller was the most overlooked controller, Of course Im talking mainly about the six button variation, which made somehting out of the numerical pad.

The 3D0 controller may be limited, but dang it the panasonic brand is amazingly comfortable. Oh, and the whole thing with loose d-pads mostly depends on the version of the controller. (The X and P buttons are different) Plus. you had a headphone port.

Third party controllers are my thing, I like using a micro pad for my xbox and PS2 (Which died some time ago) by mad cats.

Also, NES ADVANTAGE FOR THE WIN!!!

I still consider the Dualshock 2 to be the best controller ever made, although the Dualshock 3 is close since it's wireless. I've found plenty I don't like, but the N64, GameCube and Wii are all on the 'worst' list. Why did Nintendo destroy it's excellent SNES controller?

There's no "one" CD-i controller.

Why do I very much doubt you've even seen a CD-i in your life?
