I just wanted to say that I got a chance to play Contra Rebirth!
It's pretty great, although I didn't get to play enough to determine where it ranks in the series. The animation is much more "fluid" than any other Contra, and the aesthetics are less gritty and more pastel. It kind of looks like they took some inspiration from Metal Slug, although the gameplay still has the "tight" feel typical of a Contra game. (For some reason, Metal Slug always felt somewhat "loose" to me.)
The bosses and enemies are creative, and it's a pretty tough game. Not as hard as Contra 4 or Hard Core, but still pretty hard.
I got to play Contra Rebirth!
