Best Atari 2600 paddle game?

Postby Teddybear1 » April 4th, 2012, 8:37 pm

Without a doubt this was quite likely a prior topic years ago....

And I would have answered Kaboom! without a doubt - until recently.....

M-Network's Astroblast just simply ROCKS with a paddle controller.  And I do mean ROCKS!!  I would go as far to ask.....Name a better shooter for the 2600!

With the auto-fire feature and a decent paddle controller this game that I just recently acquired deserves some serious consideration for best shooter.  25 years too late but glad I found it!

I'm stuck choosing between Kaboom! and Breakout. Thanks for the heads up on Astroblast.

Super Breakout or Indy 500 are my favorite. Yeah, I know Indy 500 uses special paddle controllers. Still though, its a fun game.

Gotta go with Kaboom! Pure no-blink, in-the-zone twitch gameplay. Honorable mention to Super Breakout, Circus Atari, and Night Driver. All worthy of a spray can of Radio Shack tuner cleaner to keep the paddles from jittering.

Kaboom! if you don't have any friends. Warlords if you do. Still one of the best multiplayer games ever made. Haven't tried Astroblast though - seems like a must!

Interesting thing about Astroblast is - apparently it works with the paddle controllers AND the joystick. I didn't know it was paddle controller compatible till I read this thread I have several copies of the game, and they are those cheap weird looking cartridges that dont have any artwork or text on them, other than the name of the game.
