Snowboarding games?

Postby VideoGameCritic » January 4th, 2014, 5:01 pm

Recently I had a flashback to the late 90's when I enjoyed the Cool Boarders series on my Playstation One.  The courses were a bit angular but a lot of fun.  What ever happened to that series?

Then came the SSX series which flourished for a long time but eventually wore out its welcome (in my opinion).

The last snowboarding game I recall playing was Shawn White on the Wii.

Any new snowboarding games on the horizon?

Cool Boarders is still my favorite snowboarding series of all time. SSX is really good as well but I just loved the system of those games, especially Competition mode in CB2. You had to incorporate your skills with tricks, course knowledge, course time, and a brutal AI (on Hard mode) all into one event (10 courses back to back). I still think that, that was one of the most challenging feats I have accomplished in my history of playing videogames.

@Sega: Yes, yes you should if you can. That one is excellent, probably one of my favorites in that genre.

However SSX still wins it for me,it's just a shame the last one came out after such a gap from two very tepid games. I'm just glad the new one seems to have brought back the same stuff that made Tricky so much fun.

Shaun White Snowboarding is also not half bad.

Personally I like playing those games in the summer as escapism from the heat.
