I was wondering what became of all the games that were available for download on the Wii, including Wii ware and virtual console. Are those said games now available for download on the Wii U?

Yes, but you must be in Wii mode to download and use them. If you own such software on the Wii, you can use a special utility in Wii mode to transfer it to your Wii U. You will need to be in Wii mode to use this content as well.

Yep, you can still download WiiWare titles on the Wii U using Wii Mode.

Assuming they haven't been delisted (i.e. the Donkey Kong Country games), the WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console games are still available for download on Wii using the system's Wii Mode (they're also still available on the Wii).  For the Virtual Console games, some have been re-released on the Wii U Virtual Console with the system's specific features available (like off-screen play) and I think you can get a discount on some of them if you already bought their Wii VC versions.

Keep in mind the online play on Wiiware games  released for Wii is discontinued though, regardless of system you play it on.

That's OK, I couldn't care less about on-line play.
