I think you'll like this new set of Atari 2600 reviews because they're pretty funny.

Asteroids is a review (A- to A), and so is Taz (D to C-).  Asterix is new.

For those playing along at home, try Asteroids variation 6A and post your high score.

I think your going to get comments on Asterix's fame from any European readers:

For Europe read France.  Anyway the VCS saved me from playing tedious stuff like Football in mud soaked parks.  So I was happy.  Plus Asteroids was a revelation being far more playable than the arcade game.

Asterix was THE comic of my whole youth. Whenever a new issue was released it was circulating around immediately. I myself have read several ones under the desk at school. [smile]

BTW: I am from Germany.

I appreciate the Taz re-review and was glad to see the improvement of the grade.  In my opinion it is a first cousin to Kaboom! in regards to the "don't blink" frantic style of play.  It's a good one.

Kudos for the Asteroids update as well.  You nailed it perfectly and the comment about your dad complaining was very, very relatable to many of us 40-somethings.

Taz is my favorite of the Looney Tunes, so naturally his game was one of my favorites for the Atari back in the day, but I agree with the revised grade nonetheless. Incidentally, Asterix is one of my favorite comics, so I probably would have liked the European version as well if I had been exposed to that one instead. It's true that the game makes less sense with the new theme, though, even if you're a fan. My guess is that Atari considered that Taz wasn't so well known a character in Europe at the time, and decided that the game would sell better there by replacing him with a regional character instead, regardless of how well it fit the gameplay.

Cool I used to read them as well... had various blue plastic figurines and watched the cartoons.  So there was me thinking he was only really famous in France and the UK.  Now I find Germany liked him as well.  I suppose he was against the Roman Empire mainly.
