Gun.Smoke is one of the best NES games in my opinion. Perfect difficulty level and playability. I would give it an A-.

I notice that Josh, KingVoxel, and Shiznute are using the correct title of the game, "Gun.Smoke," with a period between Gun and Smoke. Capcom couldn't call it "Gunsmoke" because of the TV series with the same name.

Always thought Gunsmoke was loosely based on the TV series...regardless...

Total Recall got a ton of bad reviews over the years...I'm surprised it wasn't an F- here but got a D.

Ahh I used to play Gunsmoke round my friends house - good times.
Good set of reviews Critic, I definitely think your retro game reviews flow better than your modern game reviews.
You were pretty much spot on with the reviews (except I always thought Total Recall was worse than Predator, but other than that... pretty good).

But there is one game for the NES, that I'm really curious about what your take is on it called Action 52 which is rumored to be the Worst game in the ENTIRE console Library!
"Action 52" might very well be the worst NES game, at least in terms of value, because it sold for $200 in late 1991. For that price you could have bought a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis, or a collection of NES games that were actually good.

I've only played it in emulation. It does have a certain charm and some novelty value, as long as you didn't pay $200 for it. It's weird as heck. Some of the games such as "Time Warp Tickers" are so strange that you wonder what the programmers were smoking.

I was a little disappointed by the Gun.smoke review. I really think of this game as a classic and I've been asking the critic to review it for about 5 years now and it only gets a mediocre grade :-(

I know everybody has different tastes but this game really has it all. Great music, graphics and gameplay.

I agree with Wally and a few others. Gun.Smoke was an awesome NES game. Top 50 I'm thinking. I'd give this game a solid "A".

C is just too low of a score for Gun.Smoke, that was one of the best games Capcom ever made for the NES. I agree with the other posters, it had great music, fun gameplay, good level design, the extra touches like the horse for extra health and the wanted poster getting shot up after you beat the level boss, and the game had some great difficulty. Gun.Smoke is A material, a true NES classic.
