Your Favorite Video Games of 2014!

Postby Captain_Crunch1 » November 20th, 2014, 2:40 pm

So what were your favorite video games that were released this year? I played many older (cheaper) games and I do only own a Xbox360 & Nintendo 3DS, so here's my shortlist of this year:

1 Shovel Knight (3DS-download)
2 South Park: Stick of Truth (Xbox 360)
3 BioShock: Burial at Sea Episode 2 (Xbox 360)
4 Ultimate NES Remix (3DS)
5 Yoshi's Island (3DS)
6 Wolfenstein: The New Order (Xbox 360)
7 Putty Squad (3DS-download)
8 Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS)
9 Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox 360-download)
10... I guess that were all the games I played that were released in 2014...

Far Cry 4 is definitely at the top of my list right now, i'm absolutely loving every minute of it so far and can't wait to play more.

My other favorites are Advanced Warfare, Watch Dogs, Evil Within and Borderlands- the Pre Sequel.

Amazing how much gaming you had available with an inexpensive handheld going on 4 years old, and a console going on 10 years old. Who needs next gen (or current gen, as it were).

I haven't quite finished it yet, but I already know without a doubt that Dragon Age: Inquisition is number one.

1) DA:I (A+ -- transcendental gaming experience)
2) Final Fantasy X HD (A+ -- I may or may not have felt certain feelings during certain scenes...*ahem*. Fast and smooth gameplay)
3) Mario Kart 8 (A+ -- kart racing perfected)
4) Shadow of the Colossus (A+ -- replayed this classic lately for the first time in a while. Felt the same feels.)
5) Dark Souls 2 (A- --one step forward, two steps backward for the series; still a great game though)

Whoops! I just realized that this only includes games released in 2014. In that case, I'd remove Shadow of the Colossus and add P.T. in its place. It may just be a teaser, but it's one of the best horror games I've ever played.

2014 games? I haven't bothered to get many "new" games this year. I have Destiny, my son likes it, I haven't even bothered to see if it'll work with my old 20 gig, non-gold X360...

Guess that leaves Mario Kart 8 all alone.

Too much cheap, older stuff to spend much time or money on new stuff.

For this year I don't have a ton of current gen games to go with but here are the ones that have stood out-

Super Smash Bros (Wii U/3DS)- getting a new release has been a real blessing for this series and overall I've been really happy with both. I've spent a lot of time this weekend playing the Wii U game with friends and i think it'll probably be my most played game this gen. All the new characters and changes (both good and bad IMO) have freshened up the series. I guess we'll see how these two games develop.

Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)- Awesome action game and I love the weird story that makes little sense. Getting two games for the price of one was a great deal and the game is high quality.

Mario Kart 8 (wII u)- I spent a lot of time playing this online with friends and it was a high quality release. Nothing like beating people with Toadette online.

and that's pretty much it... I haven't played too many next gen games so far. I've been sticking mostly with retro-gaming this year.

Heh.... I don't think I've played a single new game from 2014.

It'll be a short list but here goes. In no particular order.

Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) - This was one hell of a birthday present. I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game but I have been interested in the series for a long time. HW seemed like a good place to start and I can't wait to get around to playing the main series.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed (PS3) - This game is ridiculous. And I love it. It's an insane concept but the result is so much fun.

Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) - I rented this one and I can't wait to pick up my own copy. I've played every Mario Kart except for the handheld ones and MK8 is definitely the best one that I've played.

South Park: The Stick of Truth (PS3) - Another rental that I'm anxious to buy. I like the show so it was cool (and a bit surprising) that the game ended up being a turn-based RPG, my favorite genre.

Bayonetta 2 (Wii U) - I only played the demo. But what an impression that demo left! If the demo was all non-stop action, the full game is gonna be insane.

I think that covers all that I've played from this year. There are a few more that I'm excited to play but I can't comment on them now.
