When does a game have to come out to be considered a homebrew?

Postby knoll3601 » February 19th, 2015, 9:53 pm

I don't know when a game is considered a homebrew. The Jaguar for example was released in 1994 and discontinued in 1996. A lot of consoles have games legitimately released shortly after they are discontinued so games released in 1997 I would consider legitimate. Then there are games released in 2010, clearly homebrew. But what about games released for the Jaguar in for example 2000? When is something considered a homebrew?

I would consider a 'homebrew' a game produced in someone's home.

I'm not sure how an entity like AtariAge produces their carts, but I suspect it is a lot closer to a couple of guys huddled around the kitchen table than to a big factory stamping out optical discs in China.

Some view homebrew as a bad word. To me, a homebrew game is any game that comes out after the system is no longer commercially selling. I guess you could use aftermarket game instead of homebrew. Homebrew sound nicer.
