Post your thoughts on these new NES reviews. Goonies II is actually a re-review.

Maybe Goonies needs a "Need strategy Guide or FAQ" icon.

I played the game a bit & I couldn't figure it out.

Giving The Goonies II an F grade is pretty harsh, but I could've guessed that the Critic wouldn't go for it. It's the kind of game where you have to be willing to do some pretty meticulous mapping, wall-testing, and/or route planning to succeed.

It's also got a couple of nasty "gotcha" moments where enemies can take away an important item and you need to extensively backtrack to regain it.

Still, great music, and solid platforming action. Plus you get immortal lines like "OUCH! WHAT DO YOU DO?" and "I DON'T GIVE YOU ENERGY BECAUSE YOU HIT ME."

Goonies II is actually a sequel to a Japanese Famicom game that for whatever reason never made it to the U.S. The first game's platforming action is similar to Goonies II, but it's more straightforward and arcade-like; there are no psuedo-3D, point-and-click-style areas like in the second game.

For those interested here is a link to a video and info about Goonies for the Famicom:

All of the stages in "Kabuki Quantum Fighter" impose time limits, not just the advanced stages.

Anyway, I felt the same way about KQF until I practiced enough to become decent at it, and finally beat it without a game over. The third stage is incredibly frustrating at first.
