Critic: Review DK VCS!

I discovered this today, and have been playing via a harmony cart for an hour now, and this may be the best home translation of Donkey Kong EVER. Even better than DK Arcade for the Intellivision!

I watched the video, I can't believe the got this to run on the Atari 2600. The graphics are better than the Colecovision version and the sound effects are spot on. Very impressive.

This is going to be amazing... when it's done.

I can't get over the high resolution image of Donkey Kong. And the sound effects too.
The fact that the screen scrolls is a drawback, but not a show-stopper.
The girders on the first stage are flat instead of slanted.

The version I'm playing definitely had some major issues still.
On the first screen, barrels would disappear before coming down to the area where you have the hammer.
On the elevator stage, Mario jumps too far, making it hard to navigate the narrow platforms.

Still, as a proof of concept this is terrific. Looks like the hard work is done and it's just a matter of
addressing some bugs and tuning the gameplay.

Let me know when this is done!

Sorry critic, that was an old rom. In this version, the jump is easier to make on the elevator screen. Just go to the back of one of the upper 2 girders from the starting area and jump. Should be MUCH easier now. Now, the barrels still won't go on girders where hammers are (most likely due to technical problems) but it's still quite amazing. Everything should work FINE in this new release. Maybe we can get a review now.

So what is the status of this project? I don't think I could really assign a definitive grade to a game-in-progress.
I'd rather wait until it's finished. Seems awfully close (99%).

More or less complete. You won't see any more gameplay improvements likely, just bug fixes.

Yeah I don't expect any more features, but I really want the bugs fixed because they could weigh down the grade.
It really is remarkable what the programmer has done.

To those that are interested, this is the latest version. The programmer for the game has stated that it is indeed complete, but small bug fixes may be put out later. This version has a shorter jump distance, and is more optimized. I'd suggest you guys check this release out, as it really is fantastic.
