College Football Playoff?

Postby matmico399 » December 30th, 2016, 6:13 pm

So we are down to four. Anybody that visits this site regularly knows I am a college football nut! My fave sport. So it's Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington. Who do You think will win. Who are you rooting for? In the two semifinal games I will take Alabama over Washington (tho I am rooting for the Huskies)... but Washington must play a near flawless game to win. Clemson and Ohio State I think will come down to the last few minutes of the game. I can't even predict a winner in that one. So overall I think Alabama will win The National Championship, but I am rooting for Clemson! What say You?

Clemson is probably the most root-able team in the bunch, but I really wish they would open up the field to 8 or even 16 teams. That way it would offer the possibility of a Cinderella team getting in.

Oh well, I guess I should be grateful there is any playoff at all, considering how long that took!

I agree with Dave about the playoff. Should get way more than 4. Make it last longer and coincide with the NFL PLayoffs so we get more options.

As an Ohio State fan, I don't want to explain the loss to Clemson. I just want to move on

I'm not a big follower of college football, although I do think opening up the field to at least 6 would be better. I think 8 would be good as well.

I think that would create more intrigue. In the NFL, wild-card teams have played in super bowls. I think it would create more possibilities of seeing different teams make it every year. Sure seems like Alabama is in almost every year.

That's why I love march madness in college basketball. Not saying 64 teams should be in the college football playoff; that would be a horrible idea, but I am pretty sure there are at least 8 worthy teams in college football to compete for a championship.

Rooting for Clemson just to see something new.

I disagree with expanding it. What makes college football so different is that with the limited chances to be in the playoffs, you essentially have a playoff game every game.

You expand it too much, and you'll end up with a team with 4-5 losses in the championship game.

That said, I think expanding it to 6 would be OK

I completely agree. I actually liked how it was before the playoff. Every regular season game basically was a playoff game. And you had 4 major bowl games. Around 10 years ago it changed to the BCS title game as well as the 4 major bowl games. The title game would rotate around the 4 major bowl games. So if the BCS title game was in the Orange Bowl, you still had the Orange Bowl game as well. I actually thought that was too much and lessened the importance of being in one of the major bowls. Now it's just watered down the game to where it's like the NFL almost. And the way they play the semifinal in the Peach Bowl or something makes absolutely no sense. I think it's sort of ruining the sport honestly. I think there were no New Years Day bowls this year which was weird as well. I miss the days when it was everyone's dream to make the Rose Bowl or the Orange Bowl.
