Street Fighter 2 Animated Movie

Postby VideoGameCritic » February 5th, 2017, 10:53 am

I picked up this Blu Ray on Amazon the other day and I'm impressed!

https://www.amazon.com/Street-Fighter-A ... er+2+movie

Not only is the movie pretty decent (if you're a SF2 fan at least) but there are a ton of extras, including various audio tracks featuring Japanese/English voice/music. There's every a documentary explaining the difference in various versions of the movie released over the years.

I should warn you there is some strong language and nudity (boobs).

I plan to post a review.

Critic, about the film and it many editions, the reason the movie had nudity has to do with the fact that Japans cultural differences at the time period on Nudity in Anime was very common, and because the US was less tolerant on that stuff. It was no surprised it was censored in many of the US versions. The Movie was even more censored in the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection versions on both the PS2 and Xbox, compared to the previous PG-13 version, which is rather ironic considering the Game having a T rating which is similar to the PG-13 in the first place making the censorship rather unnecessary! But even non offensive material was cut out to fit on a 4.7 GB single layer DVD for cost reasons along with compressed FMV footage. And about the strong language in the film, it also has to do with the fact that the English Dub version from Manga Entertainment, where the companies older English dubs have been criticized by many of adding unnecessary profanity for no reason what so ever. Not like there was profanity in the Japanese Sub version, but this has been common in certain Anime dubs that can still happen from time to time today.

The Movie also inspired the later Street Fighter Alpha series of games along with other Street Fighter related games and Media. And the movie according to the streetfighter.wika has been said to have many elements inspired by the popular Dragon Ball franchise, namely Dragon Ball Z, which is ironic considering many can consider the Street Fighter series the best Dragon Ball Video Game ever made without the license right down with the Hadoken being similar to the Kamehameha movie in the Dragon Ball franchise.

If you want more detaild information check wikipedia/the streetfighter.wika for more info as it could help the movie review out.

There was even a PS1/Sega Saturn game based on the films as an FMV title with more info here: http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Str ... tive_Movie

I remember watching this movie in the 90's and I loved it. I thought the action was great and it did a good job relaying to the game. As much as I liked this one, I liked the Fatal Fury movie even more. I always thought Fatal Fury was cooler and the movie definitely was fun to watch.
