Very pleased to see these, and thanks for reviewing Hit the Ice! Very fair review, and while I'd give it a somewhat higher grade, I agree that the game goes on far too long -- it should've had passwords, for one.
Does this mean a review of the SNES version is coming too? If so I look forward to seeing your thoughts on that slideshow.

Not a lot of love for Hit the Ice going on. You have to keep in mind that the arcade game the home ports are based on was never great as it predated NBA Jam by about 3 years. The frenetic pacing just wasn't there.
Of all the home ports, I'd say the TG-16 version is probably closest to the source material (as is the case with a lot of arcade ports). For whatever reason arcade ports on the Turbo tend to be more faithful than on other consoles.
A lackluster arcade game can only translate to a lackluster home port.

So Darius Plus is apparently a Supergrafx-compatible game so I tried it in my Retro Freak console and it did register as SFX. However when I played the game it looked the same as it did on the Turbografx (with PC Engine converter). What's the deal?

Game Sack covered this, Darius is one of two games that are ‘Supergrafx Enhancesd’. If I remember correctly it’s some extra sprites onscreen or parallax scrolling, nothing significant. I could be wrong though.

It used the extra horsepower to minimize sprite flicker.
Really, nothing special if you're used to modern games. Most emulators, legal or otherwise, throw that feature in as a default.
But at the time? It was awfully considerate of the developers to include that option.
