I will second this: And add that if you firmly believe that either the PS1 or SNES are the the greatest RPG system of all time, you might be a retro gamer.

When you're willing to spend more for an older game than a current generation game.

I recently paid almost $60 for a good condition Contra cart.

.....You drop $500 like it's pocket change on a crappy system from the '80's, but can't justify getting a Playstation 4 until it comes down in price.

I would add to that and say we would get more enjoyment out of that crappy system.

Here's a broader one, but I would say a retro gamer would choose graphics over gameplay any day of the week. I'm sure lots of people here would rather play tecmo NBA basketball over NBA 2k17, madden '92 over the latest Madden, and of course NHL '94. Just because those games may not look as good as the newer ones, means nothing to me. Give me an old school sports game over a new one any day.

I remember having to explain buying a Jaguar like that one time. Some guy who went out with my wife's friend was like "Why? Isn't that a terrible system?" I'm like "I don't understand the question."

....when a flashcart is one of favorite possessions, even when you own a legion of cartridges for that console already.

...when you can't understand why modern controllers need so many buttons. The correct number is 2. Maybe 4.

The correct answer is 6 buttons. All on the face. Nothing has been right in the world since Sega stopped making controllers for 2d focused consoles.
