Cool topic. I can think of a few really great ones off the top of my head:

Rush - Natural Science: This one closes out their Permanent Waves record and man is it friggin good. The song is a a 9 minute journey about the rise and fall of a civilization. It's just a really rocking track and the first time you listen to it, you're never quite sure what to expect next. Probably my favorite Rush track.

Pearl Jam - Release: While most of the stuff on Pearl Jam's Ten is overplayed I still love this closing track. I love the way it builds. Super satisfying to listen to.

The Cure - Untitled: Yeah, you didn't expect the guy named JustLikeHeaven to skip on a Cure record did ya? Untitled closes out the sensational Disintegration record. It's a little mellow song with a catchy little guitar hook that gets stuck in my head for days.

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt 2: Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite Floyd albums and I just love this closing track. Though with this one I need to listen to the whole album. It's not a song I'll just put on. For the full effect you gotta listen to the whole Wish You Were Here album.

Endless, Nameless is actually the last song on Nevermind, though Something In The Way is a great song.

I would say that Butterfly by Weezer is one of my favorite closers. Such a beautiful song. I think an entirely acoustic studio album with the emotional honesty of Pinkerton would be really interesting, if Weezer decided to go for it.

Well, to be ever the genious, I'll say this about Endless, Nameless being the last track off Nevermind. My brother and I were one of the first people to buy Nevermind, and the first 50,000 copies didn't have Endless Nameless. The record company famously left it off the first shipment by accident. So that makes Something In The Way the album closer. Also, Endless, Nameless is obviously not the album closer anyways because it's a hidden track. I will agree with you about Butterfly on Pinkerton being a great closer though. But, sorry, I was one of the original people that bought Nevermind.

Genuinely did not know that Jon. Thanks for that info! And yeah, I realize I'm being THAT guy by considering a hidden track the closer.

I think the original shipment of Nevermind (which didn't include Endless, Nameless) only went out to major cities so cool people like me could purchase it first (ok maybe I'm a little full of myself). But I had a cassette and CD of Nevermind and believe me it ended after Something In The Way, lol. In fact, it was only a few years ago when I couldn't locate my Nevermind CD that I got a new copy, which of course had the hidden track. So for the first 20 years of listening to Nevermind, I didn't have Endless, Nameless on it. Actually, after doing some research tonight, I just realized that for whatever reason a significant amount of CD copies of Nevermind don't have Endless, Nameless for whatever reason. In fact it might even be as many as 1/3 of CD's that don't have it. I don't think cassettes had it either. Maybe some cassettes did, but probably not that many. So when you add it all up, there's a lot of people that don't have the hidden track on their copy.

What, you guys didn't appreciate the noise of Endless, Nameless?

As an unwritten rule, the hidden track is NEVER the closing track.

"Damage Inc." off Metallica's Master of Puppets

"Coma" off Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion 1

"Hallowed be Thy Name" from Iron Maiden's The Number of The Beast

"Planet Caravan" from Pantera's Far Beyond Driven. It's a very well done and faithful cover of the Sabbath classic. And it's the very last thing you'd expect to hear after getting your ears bludgeoned into oblivion for most of the album.

"Into The Void" from Balck Sabbath's Master of Reality. That opening riff is sick!!!!!
