The Man is brutal on early 2k games. The review of your game is about 2000 characters, or 2K, to put it in perspective.

One great thing on many Atari 2600 games is that 'pick up and play' quality. The flip side of anyone waltzing in and being able to pick up and play is that the 'play' is shallow gameplay. What often saves the shallow gameplay are things like lots of options, or two well balanced sides in competition, both of which Home Run seems to be lacking.

There are a number of games that newcomers enjoy, but the enjoyment may not persist past the first few times you play the game. Cosmic Conflict on the Odyssey 2 is like that. The reviews at the time seemed to enjoy it, and you've even given it a C-, but it rapidly ceases to be fun. You end up trying to play with your left hand, or with the controller upside down, or anything to help put back some excitement.

I remember playing Home Run and throwing fast-slow-fast-slow-slow-fast-fast-right-middle-right-left-sliders.

Apparently the Sears version of "Home Run" is indeed called "Baseball". That may impact your opening sentences.

Its funny why Sears went with some different names. I found a list of the 26 games they renamed. Some make sense - "Circus Atari" becomes just "Circus", but why 'Miniature Golf" to "Arcade Golf" or "Maze Craze" to "Maze Mania".

My favorite is "Outlaw" to "Gunslinger". I think Gunslinger is the better name there.
