New HDMI Atari Flashback 8 Gold

Postby scotland » June 10th, 2017, 5:12 pm

Besides the new HDMI Genesis flashback, At games is bringing out an HDMI out Atari Flashback 8 Gold. About 100 games, and Pitfall makes a return. Also an AV version of Atari Flashback 8, and a new version of the handheld that premiered last year.

Seems worth clarifying one thing. There's actually two Atari Flashback 8 Gold Editions, which means that there are 4 Atari Flashback models this Fall since the standard definition Atari Flashback 8 and the Portable return with the old SD hardware unchanged from last year, with some game lineup changes.

One of the new HD models is just the Atari Flashback 8 Gold, while the other is the Atari Flashback 8 Gold Activision Edition. One difference seems to be that the Activision Edition adds 10 more games to the 120 in the regular Gold Edition, which presumably means that the regular model only has 29 Activision games since the Activision Edition is advertised to have 39.

And while not shown on the box art, the AtGames website states that the Activision Edition also comes with the wired AtGames paddle controllers that are compatible with real 2600/7800 consoles. And according to the AtGames site, the Activision Edition retails for the exact same price that the stripped down regular Gold Edition will go for.

So those interested need to be careful what they order, or risk having 10 less games and no paddles.

If they really do have included paddle controllers with Super Breakout I'm in. I already like the HDMI output and the rewind feature. This and the new Genesis are going to be must buys.
