Shark Attack (Atari 2600/Maze)

Postby pacman000 » July 26th, 2017, 1:04 pm

Just got Apollo's Pac-Man clone. Fun, but appears to have been programed in a rush:

-Too easy to get hung up on the walls.
-Dots are spaced out; looks like there's probably only 2 per scan line.
-Shark doesn't chase you; it swims in a straight line across the screen.

I've read Apollo's main programmer was 18 years old. I find that fascinating. Perhaps that explains the game's simpler style.

I much prefer Lost Luggage, Infiltrate and my favorite, Spacechase, which the critic didn't care for. Most of the other Apollo games aren't very good.

Have Spacechase. Cool looking, but I thought the animation was too choppy.

I'll admit Shark Attack isn't a good game, but I still enjoyed it; I like maze games, and I liked seeing how the programmer worked around the 2600's limits.

Double checked AtariAge; this wasn't programmed by the man I was thinking of. I don't know how old the programmer was, but I do know it took a lot of work to get any 2600 game to run. Programming anything is hard. When you finally get something to run, it's easy to overlook small problems; you've fixed others which were far worse.

At least this game is seasonally correct!
