Sony done with handhelds

Postby scotland » September 27th, 2017, 7:51 am

The CEO of Sony told Bloomberg that their focus is high end console gaming, and they are done with handhelds. The PSP sold a respectable 80 million units, but the Vita just 10 - mostly in Japan. The relative success of the Switch launch has not changed that opinion.

We'll see what the future of mobile/handheld/hybrid gaming is, buts its not going to be driven by Sony.

I can understand with mobile involved now there is just not the room for a competitor to Nintendo.

I recently purchased a Vita it's a smart system, but to be honest I use it purely for remote play whilst the missus is watching TV.

Thank goodness. Was there ever a less appealing handheld console than the Vita?
Did it ever offer anything more than scaled down console games with inferior controls?

It offered the only portable versions of several stellar indie titles, most notably Spelunky and Hotline Miami, but only in downloadable format.

This stinks, I wish I could play MLB: the Show when I'm on lunch.
